Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus broke through the wall of a Christian cemetery and entered the cemetery at Khan Market early on Saturday morning. Videos and pictures shared on social media show a large part of the bus inside the cemetery.
"The incident took place at around 6.30 am when the bus, which was empty as the day's service was about to start, smashed through the walls of the graveyard," a report quoted a senior officer as saying.
Only the bus driver and conductor were in the vehicle at the time of the accident, the police officer said. The constable also said that the bus driver has been detained. "The driver claims he lost control of the vehicle after the brakes failed," the police officer said, adding that a mechanical inspection of the vehicle would be carried out to ascertain the facts.
Earlier on Friday, the Delhi government promoted 216 DTC drivers and conductors to the post of Assistant Traffic Inspector. A decision has been taken to strengthen the DTC manpower deployed on various routes to ensure that people travel with valid tickets and bus passes.
According to an official statement, a total of 193 drivers and 23 conductors have been promoted and will now work closely with DTC to ensure smooth operation of bus services in the city. Last month, three people were injured when a DTC bus rammed into a car before entering a metro crossing at Naraina in west Delhi.
